The beauty of their cadence is this: Only this platoon can understand what the DI is commanding. During 1st Phase, they all start off pretty vanilla and clear. But as time goes on, the DI's slowly change the enunciation. As they approach graduation, each DI is so distinctively different that only their platoon will recognize. It's a very subtle and strong way to build unit cohesion.... "Yes, I can understand MY DI. (and there's a reason you can't).

k Capt Mark Strobl Strobl] Thank you for the explanation Captain. Great idea for the cohesion you speak of, I was curious about the Round Brown on the far side of the formation and the lagging last man on right rear of the platoon, a recovering Road Guard or? Thanks

When I was at Ft Huachuca for AIT, I did not know there were marines training there as well. We were standing in a battalion formation and I thought for absolute certain there was a seal (as in the ocean critter) barking somewhere. As soon as we were released I was looking for it. Only to have my instructors laugh their ass off because it had been the marines marching behind us to chow!!
