Thanks for sharing the What to Do & Not Do when filing a VA disability claim SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. The recommendations by Jim Strickland of VA Watch Dog seem to be on point.
I would add the following thoughts:
When initially filing a claim with the VA: I highly recommend getting assistance from one of Veterans Service Organization such as American Legion, Disabled American Veterans or Veterans of Foreign Wars. They have personnel around the country who are ready willing and able to take the lead in filing your claim as long as you have the correct documentation: final DD214, medical records
If you are already rated as service-0coonnected disabled by VA and need to get reevaluated seek out the Patient Advocate at the VA Medical Center which treats you.

LTC Stephen F. good afternoon, its great to hear of you, absolutely right and more importantly seek Veterans Service Organization such as American Legion, Disabled American Veterans or Veterans of Foreign Wars or a Veteran Representative Officer that's approved by the VA. The reason you want them approved, is so you have access to the VA.

While the VA typically responds deny, deny, deny you should all respond with appeal, appeal, appeal. I fought the fight to get my benefits. Keep it up SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL

this is great advice...I am timid with the appeals process...however, if I ever get denied anything I request, again, I will appeal.

Sgt Tammy Wallace - Try not to be timid Tammy, they want to beat you down so you forget about it or miss a deadline or meeting and then they have a reason to deny you. Good luck.

Thanks SFC, I learned the part about not calling with an attitude with some of my peers. It's bad enough you have to call over and over again to hopefully get on either a line with a wait of less than five years, or if you don't get that, you get told you can schedule a call back. I'm pissed, but not at the person on the phone. So when I get through to an operator, go through the formalities and the "thank you for your service crap", I explain myself, they acknowledge it, and we go from there. I've had only ONE instance where the operator was pissed. He wasn't even pissed at me, he was pissed at the system. It was funny to be on the line with another vet and he's more mad about the situation than I was. I applied for CSRC 24 months ago with the Army and DFAS. I was approved in six months, and they gave me my backpay just like that. There is a second part to this that VA has to do and it's an audit of the DFAS findings. While the Army paid their end, VA has their part in this also, and it involves them paying me money. I was initially told it would be six months to a year, but expect resolution in nine. This morning was 13 months later from the moment VA received the letter to complete the audit. I could get mad, but for what? I'm getting my monthly CSRC payment, so I'll just hold on and wait. You have to remember they can't do much more than annotate that you called, what for, and leave it at that.
