My female Drill (an ‘Acting Jack’) used to wake up my platoon at 0200 after ‘flunking’ Her barracks inspection & being ‘stood-up’ for her date! We PT’d from 0200 until 0530! She ‘reeked’ of alcohol!Sgt Tom Cunnally

I was on ‘hold’ status after graduating Basic. There were about 13 females in a section of a 50 man open squad bay. One Saturday afternoon, a Drill entered the barracks and totally ‘lost it’! He opened wall lockers and destroyed contents!
One brave female grabbed the receiver of the old black telephone attached to the wall. The Drill tore the entire phone from the wall and literally threw it towards the rear! I ‘dipped out’ and went straight to the CQ office & demanded the CO, 1SG, & Chaplain he called ASAP as I truly felt lives were at stake! Never saw That Drill again! No One ever spoke of the incident & I firmly believe it Was Handled Internally! That was Basic @ Ft Jackson SC for females in 1984!Capt Tom Brown

The reason? After doing a couple of weeks with the first platoon, all DIs pick up that sort of voice. A remedy for the very sore throats which occur every day? Gargle with a mouthful of Realemon. Spit some out, swallow the rest. It does sting, badly, but that does its job rather well.

Just about everything is done at top volume. The frog voice does go away, after awhile, after one has left recruit training.

Knife hands have gone away??? That's OK. At least during my tour on the field, 'adjustment of uniforms' was accepted. Not in front of the Series Commander, mind you. I do believe that Butter Bars were above correcting uniforms.

If you know what I mean. Ahem.
