Not surprising that a Sikh captain filed suit against the Defense Department on Monday seeking permission to wear a turban and maintain his long hair and beard while in uniform in adherence to his Sikh faith SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
We live in an increasingly litigious society. Pe0ople seem to be offended easily and many believe that their "rights" are more important than their responsibilities.

LTC Stephen F. thanks for your profound response, I 100% agree with your words, " People seem to be offended easily and many believe that their "rights" are more important than their responsibilities."

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL - Those so called rights that people get their shorts in a knot about is what is wrong with society as a whole, not just the Military.

I would presume that anyone that chooses to become an office or chooses to enlist would need to see some type of recruiter, someone knowledgable in their branch, that could explain to them that this is a military organization that has rules, requirements and laws that are the same for each member. If you can not meet those things, thanks for asking!
Soon we will need to check the person out to have in place everything they may need. It would be easier to just say suck it up and full in line with everybody else!

SSgt Robert Jorgensen roger that, regulation is regulation. Its called the military for a reason, and I think the Captain has not leg to stand on.

Hate to say it, but I don't see this ending well no matter who "wins". If the Army has already given an exemption to others, there is no reason not to do it now. Where I and others will have an issue is 670-1. Are we going to keep rewriting it every time something happens? The female standards were weird, and only got worse when folks hinted it was only for black females they were rewritten. When will the Army say enough is enough? If you want to serve, great. We want you, BUT you will adhere to the standards already set in place, or you can join the USMC. Let us know how that works for you. On the flip side of this, using a gas mask as a point of argument is dumb. No one carries them anymore, so to make him put it on to prove a point that you knew would happen is wrong. His conforming to standards before to get into the military also is wrong. If his beliefs are that strong, he would've maintained them throughout. This only hurts his case where the others if I'm not mistaken kept the beards and headgear throughout their time.
