(12/22/2024) President Trump weighs in on the future of the Panama Canal with the USA. He believes the U.S. is being “ripped off” and there’s national security issues. Panama Canal Authority charges tariffs to vessels passing through the waterway as high as $300,000 per vessel, of which the United States is by far the top user of the Panama Canal; secondly is China which has expanded its footprint across Central and South America. Along with other nefarious purposes, China uses the Canal for illegal immigration into the United States.

Ceding the Panama Canal was the dumbest thing (maybe) Jimmy Carter ever did, Sgt (Join to see). I realize that there was a lease. However, all Carter had to do was say, “We’re renegotiating the lease.” What would Panama have done but acquiesce?

Overall, the United States is so far out on a ledge of perversions, corruption and compromise, I’m not sure we will ever to close to being anything resembling a good country, as we once were. I really wish it could happen.
But I’m still going to be optimistic to Pres Trump righting some wrongs, however much he may accomplish LTC Stephen C. .

Hold on. All vessels transiting the canal are charged by tonnage, type of cargo (to a certain degree since some cargo presents significant safety hazards) and vessel displacement. They are NOT charged according to what nation they are registered to or what flag they are flying. To say otherwise is incorrect.
