I'm updating an Army NCO Guide. Admittedly what I have is a pretty basic quick reference app with some flash card type features. It's been a long time since I've been an NCO and I've lost some of the connection to what an NCO needs to have at their finger tips. I've got the Creed, TLPs, 8 step training model and similar stuff.

MAJ (Join to see) I would put counseling and leadership qualities, followed by some basic training and military customs and courtesy flash cards. It wouldn't hurt to put some Intel and OPSEC in their for good measure.

MAJ (Join to see), have you checked TC 7-22.7 (7 April 2015)? In addition to what you have, NCOs benefit by having accountability/contact rosters; data sheets; unit METL; Chain of Command & NCO Support Chanel; Counseling schedule; Soldier status (training/retention/SFL/concerns); NCO Charge.

That counseling schedule needs to be a constant concern.

CSM, this is great. I didn't have a clue about the new TC 7-22.7, what a gold mine. I like the counseling schedule as well. I can probably get it to post automatic reminders of when its time to counsel given the Soldier data sheets.

I am a fan of the old yellow NCO Guide from when I first joined the Army. It was simple and small. It explained the duties and responsibilities of each rank in the NCO Corps. It also listed different knowledges, skills, and attributes for each NCO rank. I found this very useful when counseling my Soldiers as a young NCO. I could outline which KSA's my NCO would already possess and which ones he/she needed to improve upon to help earn the next rank.

SGM, I could get behind this. When I promoted to 1LT and became an XO my Commander did exactly this for me and I thought it the most effective performance counseling I've ever had. So in this guide I'm thinking something like "If I'm a SGT/E-5 I should have already been to or scheduled for WLC, Already completed SSD1, I should be operating at skill level 20, I have Soldiers under me and should be able to council Soldiers monthly (quarterly if I'm in the reserves),...", "If I'm a SFC/E-7 I should be able to care about beans and bullets, logistics and [more] accountability"

I vaguely remember some general paragraphs on SGT, SSG, SFC, MSG from about 13 years ago. I'll see if Google can refresh my memory. For the SGT I remember it starting with "This is where the rubber meets the road and higher orders are translated into actions."

Google TC 22-6. It is a yellow book called, "The NCO Guide" I still use it to this day.
