What is a good Army base to be stationed at?

I just recently requested to go active Army and am looking for a good base to go to. I am a 68W and am mainly interested in a good command and a good team to work with. Any suggestions would be welcome. I currently do have choice of duty station. Thank you.

Fort Carson and FOrt Lewis best two places every if you really like the outdoors and beer breweries

According to most Soldiers the "last" duty station or the "next" duty station are the best in the Army.

Schofield Barracks, Fort Shafter, Tripler Army Hospital (all in Hawaii, on Oahu); I was going to also list some places in Germany, but everywhere I've been there is apparently closed down - even Bamburg, apparently. But Hawaii is pretty awesome.

Every unit is going to be different. There is no guarantee that the unit you get to will have a good command team or not. So, what you are looking for is really a roll of the dice and see how they land. Personally, I would recommend Germany or Italy as a choice assignment.

SGT(P) (Join to see) I just left Germany after a 3 year tour, it was a very pleasant experience. If you can get Katterbach it’s even better. The TMC is minuscule compared to other bases, and the medic I’m friends with said it was a good time

SGT(P) (Join to see) some of the “best installations” have been the worst assignments as well as the reverse. Example: I loved Ft Irwin. I had mixed feelings on Ft Carson. What do you like? Warm, cold, beach, mountains, island, mainland, Asia, Europe... Is Germany on the table? Overseas anything is usually awesome. You like big base regular Army or smaller posts?

Thank you for your response sir. I'm leaning towards warmer, I currently live in northern Wisconsin and my wife also wants warmer. Unfortunately overseas is not currently on the table. This transition is a lot for my wife and she wants to stay in the states. I also love the mountains. I'm ok with either big or smaller posts also.

When looking at duty stations, look at what the installation has to offer. As SSG Livingston mentioned the individual unit Command climate is a roll of the dice. So look at what the installation can offer vs. what you want. Like the outdoors? Fort Drum, NY is a paradise. Hate the cold? Try Hawaii or Florida. Want all the amenities on post without having to go into town? Look at Fort Bliss. Great support for the family? Fort Campbell is for you. Single and looking to mingle? Any base near a college or larger city will work. And the list can go on and on.

Having said that, my personal experience is that the Command climate in the less desired duty stations (Fort Drum, I'm looking at you) was generally better than the more desired locations, like Hawaii. My take was that the Command teams in Drum knew that Drum sucked (for most Soldiers... the outdoorsmen LOVED it)so they tried to do what they could to make it suck less. The Command teams in Hawaii had the attitude of "quit bitching about 80 hour work weeks - you are in Hawaii so there is nothing to complain about." But that is just my personal individual experience.
