Yes-- these are very powerful in person... Love them too. I do have a personal bias for the Nurse's one though. ;)

Is there any doubt? My Dad was a Marine before me...and served in Korea. I saw the Monument the first time when I was 10...and it held me in awe...I mean when you're 10 and see those huge Marines...with rifles...helmets...gear...gritty...and a huge American flag...on a pedestal...how can you not be in awe. But I saw grown ups looking at them the same way I was. It had an impact....lifelong impact.

As always each military monuments have a special meaning for those who served during that era. One Memorial that comes to my mind will always be The U.S.S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor along with the U.S.S. Missouri, then come our Marine Corps War Memorial.

I have never seen the monument in person but have seen the picture and it was beautiful. The fighting continued but it raised the morale of our people on the island and in the harbor.

SECNAV Forrestal to GEN “Howlin' Mad” Smith on seeing the flag as they landed on Iwo Jima beach: Gazing upward, at the red, white, and blue speck, Forrestal remarked to Smith: "Holland, the raising of that flag on Suribachi means a Marine Corps for the next five hundred years".

Before they scream for their Mom or spouse, they scream for Doc. And Doc will go thru Hell in order to save that life so that they may get home to Mom or spouse.
