So it should come as no surprise that as the U.S. military prepares to launch one of the largest training exercises in history later this month, many Bastrop, TX residents might suspect a secret Obama plot to spy on them, confiscate their guns and ultimately establish martial law in one of America’s proudly free conservative states. What do you think? are they just paranoid or what?

The idea that the federal government under President Obama is going to establish martial law in Texas is absurd. That's a lot easer said than done. The last thing in the world I would want to attempt to do is ride around Texas confiscating personal firearms. However, do I believe the Obama administration has an irrational fear of right-wing "terrorists"? Yes. but what they dream about and what they could accomplish are two very different things.

What would a 'Texas Invasion' accomplish? Would we be going in for their guns or their oil?

This place is turning into a conspiracy theorists haven...

I guess that's a good reason to vote the question down SGM? At least you gave a reason! Thanks for your response and honesty.

Anyone that honestly believes Jade Helm 15 is an attempt to emplace martial law is a moron.

I don't know Sir. It is a fact that the US Air Force and the US Navy will have fighter jets flying over parts of Oregon right at the beginning of the time frame of Jade Helm! Coincidence?

Are you serious? Yeah, coincidence! Training exercises across the range of our military capabilities are continuous both CONUS and OCONUS.

Sir, I was making fun of the whole "conspiracy theory" thing regarding Jade Helm. In fact, the Navy and Air Force fighter jets I was referring to are the Navy Blue Angles and the Air Force F-16 Falcon Demo at the Hillsboro Oregon International Air Show in two weeks.

Sgt David G Duchesneau, I have heard of this exercise and the concerns (as far fetched as they may be). In the VERY unlikely event this was a precursor to Martial Law and the (attempted) confiscation of our guns, I don't think it would work.

Firstly there's this little matter of the US Constitution, particularly the Second Amendment.

Secondly, it is our duty as service members to refuse to obey an unlawful order.

Thirdly, if this were to happen, the government I'm sure would meet with more than a little resistance!

But honestly, I think people are being paranoid!

LCDR (Join to see), I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say. Are you making those "mostly the Tea Party" claims about me? If you are, I am definitely NOT a member of the Tea Party.

No, I wasn't making any claims about you. It was more of a response to the "false flag" nonsense.

Colonel, I agree with you but hypothetically , if the order did come down, what would you tell your troops?

Clearly its an unlawful order - I'd seek clarity from my chain of command first, and tell those under my command not to obey the order.

Sgt David G Duchesneau That is a good question. If I believed based on all the facts that I had in front of me that this was questionable order that could violate what I raised my right hand and swore to protect (the constitution), then I would have to make that tough call and disobey that order. It would be a tough call, but one I would have to make!

Some of these folks need to get a grip.  I'm not sure "paranoid" even fits - assuming that the story is even true and not a publicity grab.

OK.. I'll play stupid (I do that easliy)... Are there not laws in place that strictly regulate the use of US Armed Forces against American citizens?

If Governor deems the situation warrants and is appropriate, He can mobilize the National Guard, as he specifically has that authority.  If POTUS unilaterally orders US Armed Forces against American Citizens within the United States, it would clearly violate the Constitution.  Americans have right to lawfully assemble as they so please.
