Let's take a look at TRULY separating the E-4s in the Army.

When a SPC is recommended and attends a promotion board and is recommended for promotion (becomes 'promotable') to Sergeant, should the Army empower our junior leaders by laterally promoting them to Corporal?
Yes. It allows for universal recognition of the leadership potential of that individual. SPC (P) are usually recognized in their platoons and units, but with CPL, the rest of the post will know that individual is striving for a higher leadership position. And it does not cost the Army a dime more to do so!
Definitely! If I was recognized as a CPL, the length of my Active Duty Career would have been positively impacted!SFC Jere Hawkins

Totally Agree! I was a “By the Books” Soldier from my first day on Active Duty until I requested a Medical Discharge...I entered the Army as anE3/PFC due to BA Degree, E4/SP4 after 4 months on Active Duty...due to injury in Basic, unable to go OCS or Airborne. Was Always in leadership position and would have Proudly worn CPL stripes. However, not an option as 75C... I worked with Drills, and DA HQ at Ft McClellan. Taught BN PAC NCO’s while Stationed in Germany and Always served in Leadership Positions. Was respected by All other Units( Infantry, Artillery, Tankers, Calvary, Drills for MP OSUT, Chem School; and trusted with Publishing CID MOS orders in addition to being NCOIC of Enlisted Promotions my Entire career...would have welcomed recognition as CPL, however never an option. “Acting Jack” was offered in Germany; however no increase in pay, so I declined. I Didn’t Act, I Performed and strictly adhered to the Regs in regard to wearing my Uniform Proudly. Would have gladly and Proudly worn CPL stripes; however never an option; so I have Very Strong feelings on This topic! I was respected by ALL Units, except MY OWN..,another reason for requesting a Medical Discharge. Am only able to say “things happen for a reason “! SSG (Join to see)

MSG(P) Quick - Absolutely, a Specialist that is promotable should start separating themselves from their peers (other Specialists) so when they actually do become a Sergeant it won't be as hard to be their superior. Being promoted to Corporal would instantly be a separator and would give them more power to take charge! I agree with you 100% about promoting he/she to Corporal would empower them to take charge off the rip, instead of waiting until cut-off! Great question!!

BLC is NOT a requirement for an E4, and very few, if any were awarded that opportunity when I was on Active Duty!SSG(P) (Join to see)

SFC (Join to see) It seems to be the "trial by fire" for all CPL's or atleast dealing with soldiers that the other NCOS are tired of. My vey first soldier was all worst case scenario's rolled into one also. I learned the hard way too lol
