I agree, even though I was raised with GM's all the way. I would not turn down a Road Runner for any reason. My opinion though varies from the premise a bit. I think the BEST Muscle Cars are coming from the garages of the weekend warriors. I am not a fan of Ford, but have seen some spectacular Ponies I woold love to have. Some of the upgrades and mods people come up with are fantastic. Watch some of the Barret-Jackson Auctions and try not to feel jealous and broke. If I had the space, tools, money, skills, and time, I would do this myself. I just need those 4 items. I am accepting donations on #2 and 3.

Should have just made a poll for "gm","ford motorsport", and "mopar". Then this poll would be worth talking about.

Dodge, Plymouth had the muscle cars. I remember back in 1969 overseas in VietNam in DaNang to be exact. All the manufactures of American Motors, General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler were at the exchange. I wanted a Roadrunner 1970. You could order them by color, interior, engine, wheels, rear end and transmission. Ordered mine cost 3200 hundred dollars. 426 Hemi 425 horse, 4spd on the floor, pistol grip shifter, 411 gears, blue, fiber glass hood, and had a good time. The only problem was I did not keep it. I hate to think of it.

It has drag radials on all four corners, the first production car with a line lock on the transmission and the AC cools the air going into the engine not the car. You do not get any cooler than that.

PO1 John Crafton - Truth I could show a lot more pictures but all you said and I even took down a martini race team Porsche but he must have been doing some long term tire test or something. He let me by (rules of the track) when we turned onto the back straight away and you see how much I was able to pull him. These Dodges have a lot of power and with the 8 spd auto the red car is much faster then my 6 spd stnd.

I'm one of the guys who make those transmissions for those cars your showing. I wouldn't buy one!

I'm rebuilding a 1974 Chevy Nova Custom "Spirit of America" Edition with the original 350 V8 SBC.

I'm not the first person I would choose to write something like this, but here goes nothin! I spent 7 years of my life as a soldier and combat engineer in the US Army. I did two deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Served in the hardest areas, in the worst of times...

Nova would be in my top five for a resto mod. Really good platform and with all the LS stuff out there you could create a real sweet ride with a cheap donor.

Too bad its name sucks. I know the meant nova like supernova, but in Spanish no va means no go.

If I read the question correctly, it is in the present tense. That is, who makes the best American muscle car one can actually go down to a local dealer and buy brand new today. I would respectfully ask the Rally Point Team to modify their survey to include brand names offering performance models being produced today(Hint, Hint Pontiacs haven't been produced since just after GM went bankrupt). And FCA produces at least a couple of hot rod Dodges. Even Cadillac produces some pretty quick sedans.

CPT Jim Schwebach The CTS-V is one bad sedan, take it to Hennessy and it becomes a crazy coup. We can buy a Hennessy CTS-V or Escalade off the showroom floor here but I do think for a pool we should keep the discussions to factory options.

and CPT Jim Schwebach I think we can all agree the RP staff missed the boat when they worded the pool. They should have checked with one of us car guys and stated past or present then decided on the lines because they have changed drastically over time. I mean Jaguar was last owned by ford so was it an American Muscle car then, and really MOPARs are Fiats now?????

There's a pretty comprehensive definition of what are considered muscle cars at
http://www.musclecarclub.com/muscle-car-definition/. Extrapolating the definition and the various examples given to a modern context would warrant widening the scope to include sedans regardless of the number of doors.

Introduction: Perhaps the most common question people have is what exactly is a muscle car. The term wasn’t even used until the late 1970s, in the 1960s there were often called “Super C…
