I'm graduating from AIT in March and my orders say that I'm going to Vicenza but my unit will be the 2nd Military Intelligence Battalion. When I Google that unit, I can't find anything about it being in Italy--all I read is that it's based in Germany. Does anyone know if the 2nd MI has units in Vicenza or if I'll be going to Germany after I get to Italy?

PFC (Join to see), 2d MI does have a unit in Vicenza. I would be more than happy to assist you with linking up with a sponsor. Send me an email to the following email address and a copy of your orders if you have them and I will get the right person to get in contact with you.

1SG I have a question. I have a son who wants to join the Army, go MI and be assigned in Italy. Do they have imagery analysts there? That is one of the MOS he is interested in doing. He scored a 97 on his ASVAB but he has to get his blood pressure down. It is the only thing holding him back from enlisting. He has to complete 3 tests in a row with good numbers and give those documents to his recruiters in Peachtree City, GA.

LTC Gail Daras To my understanding if the Army has not changed this option (was a recruiter 99-00) that you son has an option of station of choice. The catch is that they (meaning the Unit) must have a billet open for that MOS and rank by the time he graduates AIT. I wish him luck and that is a good field to get into, as a former (retired) IA myself.

Ma'am, I believe that there are IMINT folks down in Vicenza. If they are, they would be in the 207th MI BDE. That is a fairly new BDE that is just standing up. Like SSG Brian MacBain said, your son would have to take up the station of choice option with his recruiter and the folks at MEPS.

Yes I am encouraging him to travel overseas and experience as much as he can as possible. He plans to return to college but under his own GI Bill. I have 3 more kids I am sharing my GI bill with who are still in high school and two of them have significant special needs they could never be in the service. Daughter is bilaterally deaf and my son has one arm. We adopted the younger 3 from China and Kazakhstan and each have physical birth defects. Youngest was born with a hole in her skull and it has been repaired in China and the US so she is hoping to enlist possibly in the Air Force. She is doing Air Force JROTC this year as a freshman.

1SG Steven Stankovich is a First Sergeant in the Battalion and should be able to help you out. Either way, I'm sure you will love your assignment in Europe!
