I dont know anything about John Stewart. I didn't know he is a huge supporter of changing the gun laws. In this video, he expresses his view about the Charleston shootings. Does he really feel this way, or is he saying it for ratings? I hate what happened, and what makes it worse is that the shooter bought the .45 with birthday money given to him by his dad, which helps support the Obama theory that it's too easy to by a weapon, and that the easy availability needs to change.
Jon Stewart dropped his usual news satire Thursday and opted for a passionate five-minute commentary on the massacre at a historic black Charleston church that left nine people dead. The Daily Show host apologized for not having any jokes to offer, adding, “I honestly have nothing other than just sadness.” Stewart’s powerful speech addressed U.S. defense spending abroad and a failure to protect American citizens at home, pointing out that blacks in South Carolina are still forced to drive on roads named for Confederate generals. “By acknowledging it,” Stewart said, “by staring into that and seeing it for what it is, we still won’t do jackshit. Yeah, that’s us. That’s the part that blows my mind.”

I have a lot of respect for Stewart, in general. He and I disagree on most political issues. Guns are simple to me 1. I want a fighting chance (equal arms to those the attacker might have) and 2. I've sworn an oath to support and defend the constitution as written.

John Stewart is brilliant. His wit is sharp and has very thoughtful comments. If you don't agree with his politics, fine. I read he is the most trusted man in news. (Even if it is satirical)

While I am saddened by what happened in South Carolina, I am not surprised that Jon Stewart is rattling the cage in support of gun control. What he failed to explain to the audience is that the shooter should not have had the gun. This just proves that criminals do not follow the laws and will continue to obtain the guns illegally. The 1992 "Assault Weapons Ban" proved its ineffectiveness based on the rash of school shootings that proceeded. (Columbine, Pearl MS, etc.) Have you ever wondered why school shootings don't happen in Israel? It's because the teachers are armed and trained by the army in active shooter scenarios. Maybe we should follow the example of what works instead of just doing the same thing over and over again hoping for a different result.

If you don't believe that the underlying point wasn't about gun control, you are kidding yourself.Stewart is basically Bill Maher lite. He and Maher have their noses so far up the current administration's butt, that if someone stopped suddenly they would have ring around the collar. When dealing with celebrities and politicians, you must keep in mind their motives every time they open their mouths. Why do you think that he went on about street names and Confederate flags? What does that have to do with what happened in that church? Nothing. That argument is as stupid as people complaining about streets named after MLK and other pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement. Stewart expressing sadness about this heinous crime is expected, and I am glad that he shared with the world. This is not the time for people to jump to conclusions about what was the shooter's motivation for the attack. Stewart should have expressed his condolences and moved on. Stay tuned and you will see his true colors come out in the days ahead.
