General Dempsey was happy to get a POW returned (makes sense) and now he'll ensure due process (makes even more sense)...these are two SEPARATE actions.
I think it was premature (and childishly typical) for a Soldier to start a White House petition to charge Bergdahl as a deserter...the truth will come out and he'll be held accountable; if not, contact your representative(s).

OAF Exclusive: The Truth About Bowe Bergdahl
Lies were told and servicemen were lost and wounded in efforts to find a man that had no desire to be found.

Keeping this short. The investigation by the DOD conducted in 2010, concluded "Pentagon investigation in 2010 concluded that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl walked away from his unit prior to his capture by the Taliban the year before, a finding that led the military to curb any high-risk rescue plans, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.
A former Pentagon official told the AP that the evidence presented in the investigation was "incontrovertible" that Bergdahl had left the unit when he disappeared on June 30, 2009." (Fox News report, 3 June 2014)
Right, wrong or indifferent all the "hate" is stemming from the fact that this should be a done deal, but that public sympathy is clouding the issue. If he had "walked of the COP" he would not have suffered through 5 years of captivity. If you reduce the argument to just that, and remove all the "fluff” the issues is just that simple.

SFC Crossley,
Regrettably, I am not certain I believe everything FOX media reports.
If the DoD investigation report is available, I would like to see it here.
Warmest Regards, Sandy

Sandy,
The point was not to give credit to any particular news agency, I was citing a source. You are free to "Google" your particular choice of news and get the same "Pentagon sources provided this quoted information." The investigation is partially classified (dont ask me why) but again, you can Google as well as I can if you want to get information about it.

Regardless of which side of this discussion you are on, I believe that an investigation is the right thing to do. I'll be waiting to see what the findings are!

Exactly, MSG Huffman! The media outlets and the internet are ablaze with rumor and speculation. The facts need to be compiled and sorted to paint the real picture. I have my gut feelings from what I've read, and how I would feel if he were one of my soldiers, but I will refrain from passing judgement until more information comes to light.

I think an investigation is a good thing. I support getting to the bottom of his story. At the same time, he is not his father nor a direct influencer of his father's actions. I think his father's actions are creepy, but they should not influence Bergdahl's investigation.
On a side note, now that he is back can we concentrate on freeing our imprisoned Marine?
