Do you vote the question or the comment on RallyPoint? Do you know the protocol?

I vote the question if it is valid for thought provoking discussion whether I agree or not with the ...if I feel it is with the intent of solid civil and professional debate.

I vote a comment for the same reasons.

If there is an article attached I read the article and compare it to the question or comment then vote if the two are correlated for good debate and then I usually comment.

I downvoted someone one time in the very beginning without knowing what it really meant. I apologized and went back and tried to fix it. I down voted someone one time with malice and left comments as to why. They were stirring the pot and baiting folks and then making it personal without keeping it civil. It has to be unprofessional comments for me to downvote. Most of the time I just move on. That is how I see it.

I'll vote the question if I believe the question to be valid, reasonable and in promoting a good discussion.
I'll vote a comment based on the reasoning, and of course, if it fits within my world view.
I always follow up a down vote with remarks. Of course, most who say something that generates a down vote from me are as interested in my opinion as I am in theirs.

I vote on both items. I've down voted by mistake twice, but changed the vote quickly.
