Do you have to go to your unit retention NCO to reenlist?

I talked to my unit retention NCO a few days ago and he wants me to wait until October to reenlist so it "counts towards his quota", even though my window opens up this month.

I NEVER tell my Soldiers to wait. What if regulations change, you get injured (God forbid) that could hamper your eligibility or you are eligible for a bonus right now and when the new fiscal year rolls around, bonuses change or go away? There is no better time to extend your enlistment than now, no matter whether Active, National Guard or Reserve. Except for the 10% Soldiers that is!!!

Retention NCOs (company level) and Career Counselors (battalion and above) do not have 'quotas'...the Commander receives quarterly missions (minimum reenlistments) from higher headquarters; not a maximum. If you want to reenlist and you're being blocked for some reason, talk to the unit's Senior Career Counselor and/or engage your NCO Support Channel for resolution.
What are you wanting to reenlist for?
- If it's an assignment (Option 4 or 5) or training (Option 3) and it's being offered, reenlist before you lose it.
- If it's for needs of the Army (Option 1) or stabilization (Option 2) and a bonus is not being offered, doesn't matter when you reenlist; unless your MOS is going overstrength.
Ether way, unless the brigade commander deny's reenlistment, you can reenlist when eligible.

That is ridiculous! I've never heard of that before, granted I'm in the Navy. We are eligible to reenlist up to a year early from our EAOS date. Anything could happen between now and then that could render you ineligible. I would talk to someone higher ranking than him.
