Can I switch from active duty to Reserves, even if I haven't finished my contract yet?

If you have been hospitalized (inpatient) and discharged you should have been given discharge paperwork. If you are at an MTF you will have a DA3822 with a disposition on it as well as fitness for duty. There are very specific regulation on separation due to mental health conditions (40-501). If you are currently working with a BH provider they will know these regulations and be able to educate you on why you have not been listed as unfit for duty. Additionally if you are deemed unfit by the regular army you would not be eligible to join the reserves(they follow the same regulations). Lastly, if you have a severe mental health issue and identified as being unfit an MD psychiatrist would have to disposition you and recommend an MEB (a possible route) but could keep you in longer due to the evaluation process (sometimes up to a year). CPT (Join to see) - my command said its not up to them they said its up to my healthcare provider back at my base, I had to come get emergency brought to an inpatient care center

Yes you health care provider should make a decision on your fitness for duty and make recommendations to you command either for admin separation or MEB. If it’s a medical or mental health issues it will most likely be an MEB.

This is not true from active to reserves.
