Are we finally moving towards a right sized Officer Corps with 500 more majors given "pink slips"?

LTC (Join to see) With all of the cuts in the military, I wonder how many GO slots got axed? I don't know off hand but my guess is zero.

Cutting forces as the world is spiraling down towards WWIII - what could possibly go wrong?

LTC Jason Mackay - I think I just saw a milper for a W5 retention board today. I'll check tomorrow.

I believe that this is the way that it should be...Each promotion should have a quantifiable cut and thereby a reduction to those that don't make it. There is plenty of deadwood and I believe that it needs to be cut. I know that sounds harsh, but we should not be running a social welfare state where you get to stay in as long as you want.

LTC Jason Mackay my old guy memory was right. SRB for CW5s announced on the 16th, MILPER 15-365

LTC (Join to see) - There were rank/time rules placed in the past and Majors were allowed to make retirement (20 years max-non prior). The the DoD reneged and rules changed as cutbacks occurred and people are getting screwed in the process. There are a lot of good Majors getting kicked out.

The article is from August 2014.... I'm pretty sure these Majors are already aware...

Agree that those knew, I couldn't find the updated article that I had read earlier for the upcoming "pink slips"

LTC (Join to see) - If you do find an updated one, I'd like to see it. I haven't heard of any new pink slips coming out - but I'll check my mailbox when I get home!

MAJ Bryan Zeski I fell for it too, until I saw the posted date. YG 09 CPT's are on the chopping block this year. I think the MAJ's were skipped for this year, but then... some are probably being pushed out from the last board results. I wonder what the pick up rate was from the recent board?

HRC says 60% promotion rates to LTC arn't going away anytime soon so 40% of MAJs will be getting pink slips.

This is absolutely a step in the wrong direction, LTC (Join to see). It is also the result of a President who still cannot admit that we are at war with radical Islamists. Our Military is now on the brink of being a dysfunctional "mess", and at least for the next year it will not be getting any better. I believe that these Officers will be sorely needed in the very near future.

SSG Ryan R. - I know exactly why they are being dismissed there, Staff. I also know that this is an old report. I might as well say something that adds to the discussion. Don't be so quick to assign the blame to someone unless you really know the reason. And to pretend to know what I am thinking is just your elitist bullshit. You are not MY superior. Try to remember that.

SSG Ryan R. - Okay, I'll try this one last time. 1. It wasn't MY article.....I just made a comment about it. An up-to-date comment about the state of the Military. 2. Maybe my opinion is skewed, but that doesn't mean that it's not true. 3. "I" have a superiority issue? Who had to bring up the, "you cant(sic) make a educated comment", remark? I would say you need to polish your people skills (and possibly your English skills?) a bit. Also, if you just want to attack someone on a personal basis, make sure you know what the person is actually doing, and that it's not just over your head. BTW- Do you really think that you added anything positive to the discussion with your comment to me? If you can't comprehend what's going on maybe it's, "better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." (Abraham Lincoln). Have a wonderful day.

SSG Ryan R. - Try to work on you English grammar. It's MORE than a year out of date......that ends my time with you.

Any CPT/MAJ from the active component getting the axe should check out the Guard and Reserve. Provided that the axe is from a force reduction and not quality marks there are lots of places to continue service

Just to be clear, is there a new cut being announced? The linked article is from August of 2014.

Sir, The Army Times says another 15,000 active duty Troops will be cut this year.
Army headed for 30,000 active and reserve cuts in 2016
Force reductions required in the defense spending plan call for Regular Army to draw down to 475,000 soldiers.

MAJ (Join to see) - Roger, tracking additional cuts coming. And I think far in excess of 30K in 2016. My guesstimate is at least 50k.
I was just wondering if there was a specific new round of MAJ cuts announced, as the article in the post was from last year.

Sir, to the best of my knowledge - I believe the Year Groups looked at by an OSB / ESERB are safe from that for 5 years by law.
My Assignment Officer did tell me about a month and a half ago that the Army is promoting at a rate to get to a 420,000 Army. So I concur with your assessment. I think promotion rates will continue to plummet as that seems to be the last level besides voluntary exits.

Maybe, depends on who received the pink slips. The Army may someday need to get bigger, and if we do, we'll need experienced people to run the new units. We can't instantly grow experienced leaders if we need more units. Just a thought.
