If you don't do anything else to start your transition, you need to do this and do it as early ads you can. He gives great advice in this post.
I'll validate by telling you for a fact, the company I currently work for found me on LinkedIn and I have had another major company send me a notice on a position.
I'll also tell you one more thing if you don't get your network going it will be harder to transition. I hope this helps many of you. Yes I accept LinkedIn invitations also.

I accept invites as well (and was offered a position as well although it did not meet my intentions after separation.

it allmost makes you wish that rallypoint would mirror it. if there was a web based app so that you could use and find people in networks as easily as linked in has it

CSM Michael Lynch - Linked in is one of the most powerful transition tools ever invented. There's a site called BeFoundJobs-dot-com that's both free and will show you some of the filtering and search tools embedded in Linked In. That site will also teach you how to synch your Twitter and Linked In accounts. I get emails from them all the time
