1SG,

The only thing I could think of is, we had whole Divisions staged in Germany in preparation of invading Russia during Cold War.  Now we just need staging areas to deploy forces to Areas of Interest.  Also, maybe we are trying to spread the wealth and work more with some of our other Allies.  Being NJARNG, I know our state is partnered with Albainia, and other states are partnered with other Countries.  Small bases spread around Europe would give us more direct access to those Nations.

That is a very good comment SFC. I hold it to be true of our military history to bad we didn't see the Ukraine thing coming or we might have kept a few more units.

The Germans was crying about the possibility in 2006, it will probably make their economy take a nose dive.

Could you elaborate on your question?  Not sure how to begin to address it.

RGR MSG Quick,

Here is the issues I've seen here in Germany.

We have closed 5 bases here only to start construction on two in different countries in the EU.

I just don't see the reasoning behind the opening in new countries.

Respectfully

Make more sense to keep the ones we got and repair them. Or better yet, left everything alone in the first place. I for one was against the idea because of what Russia and their allies might do. Felt like I was the only one who saw this coming

During Carter's administration, units send their dependents home, due to a structural change in economic and family hardships during the 444...Western Hostage Crisis of 79. Chow hours were cut too because food was local purchase.
DA had it fat and good compared to USAEUR and Corps units then...what makes you sure they would change their behavior now? Same ol...same ol...IMO.
