At some point people are just going to have to admit that there are some military vocations which are not well-suited for women. I do not intend to sound sexist in any way, and I know this probably does to some. I am extremely vexed with General Dempsey. But that's what you get when you get a bunch of doodleheads running the show who are constantly looking for their great political moment while in office. WHY DO WE LOWER STANDARDS TO FACILITATE ANYONE IN A VERY DEMANDING JOB?? I hope the Marine Corps Commandant smacks Dempsey upside the head and wakes him up to reality. SEMPER FI!

I don't think requirements should be lowered just so women can join. Should they be able to try for it? Maybe. But don't change physical and mental requirements just so few can try to join. That could lead to weaker military. I'm all for equality, but I don't want to put my brothers and sisters in harms way because I was let it because someone else carried all my gear because I was too weak. But if I earn it, it's a different story.

Equality has this strange word in it, equal. I completely agree with you.

In addition to your point, every "try" costs the military money to pay, feed, and house each person in training in addition to the logistics necessary to support their training. Every training drop is essentially a wasted investment. Those bad investments are bound to happen, but you don't want to increase them unnecessarily.

Marines will never surrender for any reason. They'd rater die on the battlefield than surrender. That mentality and standard is instilled in all USMC. Women have served as Marines for more than 60 years. It's a ludicrous position to suggest our female jarheads are the downfall of the corps.

Sgt Sasha Cruz, there will be people who disagree. We just have the courage to say what we believe professionally and/or personally. It's no different than when I was active. No everyone agreed with my decisions or recommendations, but I made them and kept moving. I believe people respect you more when you're not fence sitter. We either believe something to be true or we don't. Personally, I don't mind it when people disagree. I'd rather them elaborate on why and we both learn, grow/ respect each other's perspective.

SFC Michael Jackson, MBA , I completely agree. I love it when people underestimate me specifically. I don't have to, or even try to argue, I take it on through my actions to prove to them how wrong they are. It's rough though when people aren't open to actually discussing the topic, just rather have attitude towards other opinions.

Amen to all the above. I like the expression, "agree to disagree and move on." If everyone thought exactly the same, we'd all be prototypical robots.

IMHO
Allen West is a political hack and no friend of the service.
He was disciplined, relived of command and forced to exit the service.
His opinions about service in the USMC are are relevant as his thought on space exploration.

That is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. However, had I been in his position for the event he was disciplined for, I would have probably done the very same thing he did in order to save the lives of my soldiers like he did...and I would be just another irrelevant face in the crowd as well by your measure. But then I don't really give a shit, either, because there is already a long line of people who consider me irrelevant to begin with, so I'm in good company with Allen West. ;)

I don't put very much stock in what ANY of our so-called news networks have to say about much of anything anymore. I clearly lean to the right, but that is not due to anything FOX News has to say about anything, and they irritate me about as much as MSNBC does anymore. They are ALL out to sell TV ratings and use opinion-based reporting as their guise to win them. Some just happen to be more popular than others...
