I’ve already had two surgeries on my right knee. I fucked it up again at jrtc two months ago and have an open LoD. Tomorrow I have another appointment for my knee where they are probably going to recommend a 3rd surgery. I literally can’t run anymore. For the past two months I’ve been trying to get back into running but I just can’t because of the pain.

Like today I tried running 30-60s and like 15 seconds into a sprint I get a horrible stabbing pain in the inside of my knee that I have to sit down for a few minutes to get it to go away. Then I try distance runs and about 3-5 minutes in, I get that same pain causing me to stop and sit down for a bit. Next month we have our PT test that goes on record. There is no way I’m gonna be able to pass it.

My readiness nco is the one that told me about the permanent profile so I can walk the run. I’ve emailed him a few times about it but he just ignores them. How would I be able to get this profile? I’m in the Guard btw

This shit is depressing. I would kill to be able to run again.

Get a temporary profile so you do not have to take the PT test. Get guidance from your orthopedist/surgeon about easing back into workout out. Get a referral to physical therapy. Work on getting off the temporary profile. If you cannot resume normal activity after a year on a temporary profile, it will become permanent. At that point, you will be reevaluated every year to determine if you need to remain on a permanent profile.

While a permanent profile may save you now, keep in mind that there are currently no alternative events for the upcoming ACFT. You may end up separated from service in the next few years regardless of a permanent profile, so it is in your best interest to work with your interdisciplinary care team to get back to functional. Best of luck!

SSG (Join to see) I've heard alternate events for the 2-mile run are coming, just nothing official yet. The alternate events that are currently proposed are a 5000m row, 15000m bike, or a 1200m swim all with a 25 min time limit. I've done the row and the bike, and that 25 min time limit is no joke (haven't attempted the swim yet). I would bet that 80% of people that can't pass the run won't be able to pass those two alternate events as they currently stand. Go try them one of them and let me know whether you agree or not, I'd be happy to have another opinion.

There are actually three alternate events, four if you count the bikes separate, that you can do for the run if you are profiled. Walk, stationary bike or bike, or swimming. Passing these will give you will get you a GO, but does not count for points.
If you are 11B with bad knees, I would seriously think about an MOS change.

PVT (Join to see) - You are in a different position. Your command should be looking for a job that you are physically capable of performing rather than lose you to a medical. Mid enlistment MOS changes are rare even in the Regular Army unless you are in an MOS that is over strength and want to go to one that is very understrength. I would hand my medical papers to the Commander and ask. The worse that he can do is say no, but I think the final word would be at Brigade or higher.

CPT Lawrence Cable - I dont know about the Guard, but if you end up with a P3 or P4, you get med boarded. One of the outcomes could be reclassification (out of cycle), has nothing to do with PSR or your exisiting contrtact. Another could be separation.

LTC Jason Mackay - Worked the same way when I was still active reserve. When I was in, the Guard was very willing to work with people that had medical issues but could still serve. Yes, a Med Board can mean that you are out too, but I know a lot of soldiers with bad knees that are still serving.

PVT (Join to see) would not advise you to get out, reentry will be more problematic

You need to seek out your Primary Care Provider and get examined and have them fill out the proper documentation. It will then be submitted and reviewed. Once it is approved, it will be uploaded into MEDPROS and a copy sent to you. If your civilian medical provider is not sure how to proceed, you can speak with the medical folks on your next SRP or you can contact LHI

DA Form 3349. There is a difference between a temporary and a semi permanent profile (permanent profiles went away, they are reevaluated every 3-5 years by the issuing provider or unit provider). If you have a P2 profile....probably ok. If you have a P3 or 4....MEB. Once they are loaded in MEDPROS, they remain, even if they expired so there is an audit trail on profiles youve had. Good service connection evidence if you file a VA claim. Also tells the tale of how much you are on a profile and for what.
