Does the Army cover my family staying in a hotel while awaiting my house to be move-in ready at my new duty station? If so, do I use my GTC?

So the movers are packing up our house in the 19th of June, I sign out on PCS leave the 20th and we have a tentative closing date on our house off post of our new duty station between June 21st-25th. With all that being said, does the army cover my wife and baby to stay in a hotel for a few days before my house is move in ready? And if so, do I use my Government Travel Card?

I don't see why you cant use Permissive TDY for the PCS move as it will entitle you and your family meal and hotel money. You can call the gaining base's guest housing to get a picture of availability. The use of the GTC is authorized for PCS travel. Save all receipts. Who will input your travel plans into DTS?

Because PTDY is non-chargeable leave so of course people want that approved instead of normal leave. You absolutely can use your GPC during PCS moves, it is actually encouraged. You get TLE if you are on PTDY or not. You get up to the max lodging rate and M&IE amount is based on how many dependents you have. It is all laid out in the JTR.

MAJ Ken Landgren - I believe the Captain's opinion is correct and am absolutely sure it is in the JTR.

5–31. Permissive temporary duty approval authority a. Commanders of units, normally commanded by officers in the rank of lieutenant colonel or higher are authorized to approve, when period of absence is 10 days or less. So, am I to assume some of you get PTDY without a signature from an approving authority? You have to have PTDY authorized to get TLE.

Yes you get a limited amount of TLE. If you exceed that you will end up paying back the extra to your GTC. Also, that 10 days of TLE is for the front side and the backside combined. That means if you stay in a hotel 7 days prior to leaving you get three more days of lodging once you arrive at your next duty station. There are other caveats, rules, and exceptions based on whether you're OCONUS or CONUS as well

Yes, it is part of your PCS, call the Army hotel at the post you are PCSing and make a reservation for you and your family. You can pay for the hotel with your government card, just get receipts for all expenses.

LTC Jason Mackay - DLA rates for partial reimbursement to servicemembers for the expenses incurred in relocating the member’s household on a PCS, ordered for the Government’s convenience, or incident to an evacuation. In more simpler terms the allowance is for the setup of your new home such household items, furniture or travel expenses related to moving.

Dislocation allowance is a set amount. I can’t remember the exact amount. LTC Jason Mackay

LTC Jason Mackay - it was either DLA or TLE that was split between gaining and losing Installation. Thought it was 15 days worth
