Having served in the acquisition world and in the CENTCOM AOR this book has moved me deeply.  Robert Gates is the epitome of servant leadership and I am proud to have served under his hand.

So what is your take on the book? why do you think it is such a great book? From what I have read (from reviews) he basically says President Obama did everything right but he wasn't nice to Gates or the military commanders. He then goes on to show contempt for the president because of this.

Critics that write reviews are politically driven much like everyone in the National Capital region. They read the book form that perspective and lens. To read it as a military member that lived through everything he talks about in the book gives you and entirely different appreciation for happened and why Gates did the things he did.
The president, republican or democrat, has their role in government and if they want to use this book to advance their agenda that’s find. But if people only take the book for what Fox news or CNN says about it then they have missed out on a critical perspective on living history.
One of my favorite professors would always say “there are two types of people in this world, those that read and those that don’t”. Don’t let someone else make up your mind for you.

I was looking at waiting until I got this one for free but you may have just convinced me to purchase the book (I am a cheapskate).
