PT tests and cheating. Is this the work of the new kinder military or RDCs trying to make quotas?

As an AIT Instructor at Fort Eustis in Virginia, I have seen Soldier get passed on a PT Test because the AIT Platoon Sergeants not want to have to deal with them anymore because they were a pain in the butt, smartass, etc. Some of the AIT Instructors would administer the APFT and a Soldier would fail and miraculously pass a "retest" given by the AIT PSG a week later. Some were kind of hard to believe considering how bad some failed. Some were close so we didn't question, but other were causing us to scratch our heads.

I wonder how some Soldiers go through basic and AIT (Army) and come to the unit and cannot pass height and weight or pass a PT test. I always suspected that they do not care about some going to the Reserves as soon as they graduate they become the unit's responsibility. We have no real contact with the basic and AIT unlike active component. So this does not surprise me as I, unfortunately, figured it happened as there is no logical explanation otherwise.

Sir, Soldiers cannot be held liable for the tape test until 1 year in service. They can be taped at 6 months but most are in their units by that time. Who is that that you say doesn't care? I am an AIT PLT SGT and if I was thought that I wasn't doing my job to the fullest I might would have been offended. But since I know as for my part that I am following the regs that are given to me to uphold...Its all good as they say. I know if Soldiers can't pass their PT test here at my unit then NO they do not ship to their next unit or back to their NG/AR unit. They sit here and do extra PT until they pass their APFT. That being said, the lack of concern from these Soldiers about staying fit or healthy. Most gain alot of weight with their newfound freedom away from basic. As I said..If I was authorized to hold Soldiers to 600-9 I would be the first with tape in hand. Soldiers not meeting body
fat standards after 1 year from date of entry into the Active Army will be entered in the AWCP and flagged under the
provisions of AR 600–8–2 by the unit commander.

(5) New recruits. These recruits, regardless of component, will have 180 days from entry to active service to meet the retention body fat standards established in this regulation. Failure to achieve retention body fat standards at 180
days will result in Soldiers being flagged in accordance with AR 600–8–2 and enrolled in the ABCP.
c. Soldiers that do not meet the criteria of paragraph b, above have the option to request a temporary exception to policy. See paragraph 3–17.

About 5 years ago I took the APFT while I was sick. NCO asked if I wanted to come back the following week, but I figured I might as well do it while I was there. Can't prove it, but I think the NCO did me a favor because no way that was a 15:30 2-mile. I definitely was within passing time, but I think he helped me out a bit. I have no bad feelings about saying I appreciate the hook up.
