What's the best book or manual on unsupported small unit tactics?

Ranger Handbook all the way. When I was still in the Infantry as a squad leader and acting platoon sergeant, whenever I would do any hip-pocket training or actually wanted to teach younger grunts any type of infantry/small-unit tactics, its the first book I went to.

Is there anything else you could recommend, CW3 (Join to see)? I'm looking for something more understandable to someone who is completely inexperienced in Infantry tactics.

Honestly the only other thing I could suggest is the infantry field manual. It used to be FM 7-8 but I believe it is an ATP now since I left the infantry. The being said, even the old manual was pretty good at basic infantry tactics. Beyond that, I am not sure how much more basic you can get.

Ranger handbook is what I used. It is the best source for infantry tactics.

It's good, but it's very difficult to read. Even when I was getting Ranger School classes from Tabbed Team Leaders in 3rd Batt, I couldn't get anything out of the book itself. It wasn't until I got to Ranger school that I was able to 'get it.' I'm looking for something more accessible to the uninitiated.

I would also include Small Unit Tactics Handbook and probably the Guerrilla Warfare Handbook.
