Have you ever looked for or received same-day care at the VA?

Yes. Had pain on my forehead on Sunday evening. We headed to the San Diego VA Medical Center. Walked into Emergency. Was seen within an hour. Turns out it was Shingles. I was given medication to relief the symptoms. The doctor sent me to the Ophthalmologist who took a loooong time checking my eyes to make sure the Shingles had not infected them. Great service.

Several times. Always call as soon as they open. Most clinics try to keep appointments open for walk ins. You may not realize this but it is the same on the civilian side of things, so don't think the grass is any greener. I also have a very good relationship with my doctor, I came in one afternoon and was in terrible pain needing pain medication. The nurse said he was behind and there was no way. When she said it was me and what I needed he told her to get me back, if I was asking for pain meds something was really wrong, and also I don't waste his time when I come in. If I am there I need a doctor, I know how to manage on my own and when it's time to be seen and when it's an emergency.
