I like the unit I'm in, not hurting to get out of here. Just thinking ahead for my career, and I'd like to made my next stop at recruiting and submit a VOLUNTEERpacket as far ahead of time as possible that way it plays out in my best interest. I understand there's deros dates, but I've seen guys take off 6 months prior to conclusion of deros date. thanks in advance

After reading some of the responses thought I would add my two cents as a current recruiter. What is your goal for your career? Are you looking for a broadening assignment? If so, have you thought about the other assignments?
Recruiting isn't an easy assignment for most and depending on the eb and flow of the people joining the hours are long. HOWEVER, it can be very rewarding. You will have the opportunity to be a member of your community and change the lives/viewpoints of some of those people who live in that area. You will generally have the ability to take college classes and focus on the self professional development side. The NCOERs have changed and focus more on what you do in the community and for development rather than the numbers of people you put in.

First off, thank you for your response.
At the end of my current assignment I will have my 3 years rated squad leader time, and will be looking for a broadening assignment. The other option rift off the bat is drill sergeant. I'm leaning more towards recruiting due to the fact that although hours will be long, it won't be as bad on my family as drill.
It is good to know that the focus has changed more towards impact on cummunity. I believe I can really contribute and benefit from a recruiting assignment.

SSG (Join to see) - That's the right attitude and recruiting would be lucky to have you. Would have said 'don't do it' if your sole purpose was a broadening assignment, but wanting to benefit and contribute to the overall mission and community changes my knee jerk reaction. There will definitely be times that it is hard on your family, but get them involved and keep the same attitude. You will be just fine. Definitely check out the Recruit the Recruiter link and contact them sooner than later. There is a packet to be completed and you want to ensure you are on recruiting orders prior to coming down on any other orders. Also, don't go through your branch because then technically you wouldn't be considered a volunteer and it will mess up your chances of choosing where you go.

SSG Bethany Viglietta - I've been warned before about going through my branch and loosing the "volunteer" status in lack of better words, so I will definitely be submitting my packet as soon as my window opens to the post recruit the recruiter team. Hope it all works out.

SSG (Join to see) - If it doesn't work out, there are other opportunities out there as well for a broadening assignment. Fingers crossed that it works out!

As a former recruiter back in 1999, if you can sell something to a stranger and convince them it is the greatest product, then go for it. In recruiting field, you can be the best recruiter in one month and ht next you are a scumbag. Your NCOER will be based on how many you put in, not on how knowledge you are on soldier skills or recruiting guidelines. It is a very tough assignment and I have the upmost respect for all recruiters in all services. You will not have any free time or very little of it. I wish you luck if you go that route.

I don't see myself turning over to the dark side permanently csm. And was not tracking the bonus, but won't complain about it. It's a nice add on
