CSM, I'm at work so I cannot listen, but I hope it has some new information in it. I seriously doubt it's going to change my mind. But no matter what happened with this clown, we had no choice to get his ass back, and use all the means to do it. He's here and those involved need to get over the "starstruck" attitudes and do the right thing. I firmly predict this much; IF they allow him to retire with full benefits, and the backpay, there will be HELL to pay in the ranks. Every creed out there would be questioned, and some HARD questions asked that won't get answers. The Army doesn't need this, the military doesn't need this, and the country as a whole doesn't need this.

me too I remember days of BDU promotions. I agree let loose his old platoon mates and televise it on WWE, Bowe and the Taliban against the US

I think GEN Abrams has ordered courts martial procedures. That seems appropriate to me, perhaps a little overdue.

Col Edward Holland - I believe you're right Sir, and maybe you can answer this question for me. With the investigating MG and the AF COL who both said he shouldn't get prison time, won't they be pressed into testifying for the defense, and wouldn't that testimony play into the defense's hands? I've never been to a Courts Martial, and will not play an expert on the UCMJ. If they say the same things under oath, wouldn't that carry weight with the judge and jury?

I don't know any more than what I read in Army Times. (http://www.armytimes.com/story/military/2015/12/14/sgt-bowe-bergdahl-face-court-martial-desertion-charge/77300686/)
From that article it looks like the Maj Gen was USAF (based on the abbreviation they used). The recommendation for a special courts martial came from an O-5. GEN Abrams does not seem to have been convinced that he should limit the court's options.
My insight on Courts Martial is limited. The recommendations would as you suggest, seem to help the defense. They are already pushing their public opinion and political advantages. Regardless, I am pleased to see GEN Abrams was not restrained.

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will face court-martial for desertion, misbehavior charges
The Army will court-martial Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier who wondered off his Afghanistan post in 2009.

Listening to it, I learned a bunch but nothing really or truly insightful. We knew some would try to spin this in such a way that he was not at fault, when clearly he was, his own words convict him. I was surprised at how stupid this PFC was...is? To me, he is just confirming what I expected.

Oh for the love of all things holy, why can't we just bury that bastard in some hole and move on. You can try to spin a duck into a swan, but in the end it is still just a duck. We are going to give douche full benefits and back pay, while we have ACTUAL SM's living on the street? He could do us all a favor again and walk off the United States for good this time.
