How are some people on RallyPoint without using their real names? How did they validate their service? What are they hiding from?

I would imagine people fear retaliation, and that fear is a real one.
I think that if you conduct yourself with professionalism and respect, you really don't have anything to worry about though.
Yes, that retaliation happens. It happened to me. Luckily for me, I have accumulated more than a few chips on my side of the table, and was willing to re-raise the pot. They folded.

This is probably the most likely reason, at least for people still serving. I think that is also why many junior enlisted don't participate here as much as well. The fear of leadership possibly seeing something posted on here looms over their heads so they just stay away. I know a few people at my last unit that would come to RP to read but never wanted to actually build their profile and contribute.
There is nothing wrong with that of course, although I will say a full name at least would be nice. Seeing SFC (Servicemember) or SFC B. S. is kind of annoying as those are the profiles you usually see performing the "Drive-By Down Voting" or making ridiculous and pointless comments and things of that nature. They just don't care because they don't have to worry about being identified.

Yup, trolls. For the most part. I do get it, but if they are that apprehensive, don't post. Hiding behind anonymity is cowardly. Maybe it's something they shouldn't say in public to begin with. Or maybe they need to get the facts straight... I don't know.

I think it's just a RP setting. You have to "friend them" to see their name...

Sometimes its a setting however often members just choose not to show their names and faces. Verified accounts you should have your real name.
