Army Pulls Back Household Goods Shipments as Privatized Moving Contract Leads to Widespread...

I moved my HHGs in the Army at least 15 times in 28 years. It was never easy, but we had few real problems under the "old" system. This looks like another "deal with the devil" to privatize something and promising no disruption in service or drop in quality - when it appears that both of those are now widespread. Sad.

My experience was about a 3:1 comparing if I had a "good move" to a "bad move", but it really was hit-or-miss depending on the provider you had doing the pick-up and drop-off (you just knew that you better start the claim form if you discovered that Best Forwarders were doing the pick-up/drop-off of your HHG...)

We had various small claims (of damage) on maybe 1/3 of our moves, but we only had one instance where any significant items were actually missing (some stereo components) - stolen, potentially - while in the holding warehouse returning from Germany our first time.

I think what is lost in these kinds of changes (privatization) is the oversight from the Garrison. I saw it before retiring in the Housing program when, the DPWs lost daily/weekly contact with base housing issues.
