This whole thing is very interesting. They don't mention that any planet belonging to a red dwarf and in the habitability range is close enough to be tidally locked, like our moon, with one side always facing the red dwarf. One side would be blistering hot, the other way below zero. Most water vapor would eventually make its way to the dark side and freeze out, leaving the rest of the planet very arid. Theoretically there would be a temperate ring around the planet in the twilight zone, but that area would have to cope with the lack of water. I suppose a civilization could develop there, the odds would seem to be heavily against it.
