Attention soon-to-be Retirees, did you know that you can have your retirement certificate signed by any living President?
According to the Air Reserve Personnel Center, (I'm sure other services offer the same thing), you can have your retirement certificate signed by any living president. I was not aware of this until talking with other retirees recently. If you are planning to retire from the Air Force Reserves anytime soon this may be something you want to work out with ARPC Retirements section so you get what you want when your retirement certificate arrives.

That sounds great Maj Jeff Dodd. I am scheduled to retire next October.
I would opt to have my certificate signed by President George W. Bush.

I retire 1 October, and all Presidents have a Presidential Letter of Appreciation, to include Donald Trump which is not available at the moment. The sitting President is signed as Commander In Chief." I have received Presidential LOAs from Bush 41 & 43, Carter, and Clinton. All can be requested online with the exception of Bush and Carter. You must mail in a request. It takes about 2 months for them to send, so please request early.

SFC (Retired) Efrain Hernandez - Indeed. President Obama was in office when I retired in 2010. Still I request both Bush 43 & Clinton. I just received the Bush LOA in the mail yesterday. I felt quite honored.

You don't have to submit hard copy. You just send it electronically - I do it all the time.

I did not, and this had never even occurred to me as a thing you could do. When I get a bit closer to retirement, I will seriously look into it. I have a strong preference for whose signature I would value the most and I don't expect this next election to change that.
Of course, if I end up getting the signature of whomever the sitting President is at the time, that will get the job done too.

LTC Vincent Stoneking: Glad I could shed light on the subject. For me this is a very important document that symbolizes the many years I have spent serving this great nation. I've spent several hundred dollars encasing the certificate and retirement flag in a custom made display box and the signature on the document matters to me.
