The 1st Battalion 52nd Infantry Regiment "READYRIFLES" served with distinction in WWI, WWII, the Vietnam War and in the Cold War.
During the 1980s it was a mechanized infantry battalion based at Warner Kasserne, in Bamberg, Federal Republic of Germany [West Germany]

1/52 "READYRIFLES" BN
The 52nd Infantry regiment was constituted and organized in the spring of 1911 at "Chickamauga, Georgia. In November 1917 it was-assigned to the 6th Division for service in World War I. After several successful campaigns in Europe the Regiment was inactivated at Fort Sheridan, Illinois in September 1921. After several inactive reassignments, it was reactivated in July 1942 at Fort Riley, Kansas as the as the 52nd Infantry of the 9th Armored Division. The Battalion fought with distinction in 6 major campaigns in World War. II. After several periods of deactivation, the 52nd Infantry Regiment was formed-in 1959 as a parent regiment, and served honorably in Vietnam.
It now stands ready to protect the frontiers of Europe in Germany. [written during the 1980s]
The unit has been awarded 3 presidential and 3 meritorious unit citations. The
unit was also awarded is campaign streamers from 3 major conflicts. In August
1964 the regiment was awarded. the distinctive title of the "READYRIFLES"

Famous members
General David M. Rodriguez became the third commander of U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM), headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, on April 5, 2013. He recently retired. In the 1980s, CPT David M. Rodriguez commanded B 1/52 Infantry Company.
Major General Kevin A. Leonard assumed command of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command on 25 August 2010. His first assignment was as a rifle and scout platoon leader in 1st Battalion 52 Infantry in 1980.
