Interesting times back then. Reagan was negotiating the SALT II treaty with Gorbachov in Iceland while we did this. I didn't get to go on this mission, but it was quite a feet of ingenuity, innovation, and teamwork for its time. Chinooks don't exactly fit comfortably in a C5. The amount of time it took in theater to unload, reassemble, test fly, perform, tear down and return was an astounding feet and the first of its kind at that point.

I am not surprised they flew it out, but I am surprised that they are being credited for ground reconnaissance and security. The FFL are exceptional soldiers with a very free set of ROEs. But I suspect there was either SAD or some other JSOC ground asset involved operationally.

I already understood that 8-) I was a JSOC asset for a few years and if you serve in the 1/160th or 1/228 AVN BN your unit inserted and saved my butt on many occasions. Thank you SGT Barrie for your service and nice HGU-56/P.

Good thing this didn't happen on Obama's watch; would have been outraged!
