I counter this with C rations,in them you had to use your trusty P38 to open, there was no mixing every can was premixed( see Ham and Limas on some of my previous posts Ugh! )And finally to heat you punched holes in a dry container white bread,cheese and crackers and if lucky had some heat tabs if not C4 pellets from a Claymore (not one you would use on an ambush of course) if worse came to worse peanut butter( C rat) and bug juice though smokey and smelly would work in a pinch,of course most of the time we just ate the damn things cold!

In my early AF career I was the Shop Scrounge. I was friends with a lot of guys from other units so I could usually get whatever we wanted if another unit had it, through some improvised or creative dickering. I always seemed to have a deal going of one kind or another.
I was on a deployment in Germany back in the 70s, with not much going on in my primary job they had me helping out the Aerospace Ground Equipment guy. So when the Army guys came through with their C-Rats I set up a Power Unit and put a set of C-Rats on the exhaust, only took a min or two to heat them up. I charged a quarter and traded out hot for cold cans, made about ten bucks a night, kept me in Beer Money for a week.

MSgt Dale Johnson- Funny you should mention Germany, my late Brother was a MSgt in the AF stationed in Berlin in the Sixties tried to talk him into a inter theatre transfer when I was in Vietnam,no go ,he said he tried to talk me into the AF when I enlisted so he wouldn’t bite,crabby old bastard.

PO3 Bob McCord -Had an amusing but not too pleasant incident soon after arriving in country,doing a sweep of a nearby ville close to our base camp,came across a kind of Vietnamese BBQ in back of some huts,tried some of the meat,soon found the source,puppies in bamboo cages were the entree.

I remember, 20 years ago, seeing a Playboy or Penthouse cartoon that showed the McDonald's sign. It says something like a hundred billion served, 60 billion eaten and 20 billion digested. Maybe somebody here has that old cartoon?

Having been a cook we found out that they work better than top of the line can openers to open Tray packs other wise know as t-rations.

TSgt David L. - The trick we found was remove them from the trays and prepare them like regular meal. The only reason military went to them is all you have to do is boil water, trust me when I say there are cooks out there who can not do that it was away for the military to eliminate food service.
