Two scientists won the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine on Monday for their discovery of microRNA, tiny bits of genetic material that serve as on and off switches inside cells that help control what the cells do and when they do it.
If scientists can better understand how they work and how to manipulate them, it could one day lead to powerful treatments for diseases like cancer.
The work by Americans Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun is “proving to be fundamentally important for how organisms develop and function,” according to a panel that awarded the prize in Stockholm.

Our 50 yo daughter is undergoing aggressive treatment for a lethal brain tumor. It mostly involves the glial cells. Due to the radiation she show some necrotic loss of tissue.

WOW ~ How Absolutely Fascinating...
I'm Probably The Oldest S.O.B. In This Joint,
But At 80, I've Witnessed So MANY Great Discoveries
& Improvements. When I Read Articles Like This One,
It Reads Like Total Fiction, Something Which MAY Show-Up
In 2 - 3 HUNDRED Years From Now. It's Just So Fascinating
You'd Think, "I'd LOVE Going Into That Field",.
The First Memory Of My Seeing Something Of That Importance
Is When The Polio Vaccine Came Out. It Changed The Worlds History
By Saving MILLIONS Of Lives,. Talk About COOL, This One's Like A Block Of ICE.

That was really something. Everywhere was celebrating the end of polio. I finally got the oral vaccination in the Army.
