I am fascinated with militaria, and that includes honors that SM's have earned that I speak to on a daily basis...here on RP.
So, this is a Get-To-Know you question...post and share if you'd like us all to get to know you a little better. Provide a brief description of how you were awarded the top award.

WOW SGM! When I saw this question, the first thing that came to mind were my Dog Tags. But if I had to chose an actual award or awards. It would be my grandfather's shadow box with his awards from WWII and his dog tags. So, before I left for the STAN, I sent paperwork up to the VA in D.C. on trying to get the awards my grandfather should of been awarded for his service during WWII. So, while I was deployed, i would ask my wife like every month had anything come back from the VA. Of course her response was always the same NO. So on March 1, 2013 I was promoted to SSG and on that same day my Grandfathers awards came in from the VA. Of course my wife would tell me for the next two 1/2 months that nothing had come in. So, my wife and parents throw a welcome home party for me and after we had all eaten, my wife asked me to sit down. She then brings out this present wrapped in camo wrapping paper. Once I noticed what it was the water faucet was turned on. Then She told me they came in the same day I got promoted. So next to my Dog Tags, my Grandfathers Awards and Dog Tags are my most cherished awards.

SPC Joseph Kenny - She did a great work of surprise and honor because she understood how you felt about getting the VA to provide the information for you. Super important.

Meritorious Service Medal - Beirut, Lebanon (1983-1984)
Back in the 80s, it was rare to see an enlisted Marine with a Meritorious Service Medal --- they usually went to senior enlisted (upon retirement) and, of course, to officers.
