Do you agree with the standards change in the USAF?
Fatter recruits are now welcome as the Air Force revises its rules.
In the past, men and women’s bodies needed to be 20% or 28% fat, respectively, to be eligible for service. That benchmark is now 26% for men and 36% for women.
This change has allowed recruiting to bring 50 to 100 more people into the Air Force each month.
This is brilliant. Once in, their sedentary lifestyle will change, and they will lose weight to meet standards.

Lower standards = Lower quality and it's been happening for awhile.

When I look at our High School years and I went on active duty in 1966 High schools all had gym classes for everyone, that were NOT optional. We didn't have overweight physical wrecks entering then and for Air Force military basic training I was already in shape, it wasn't hard. There were some though that entered that weren't in shape an overweight and had to either perform or be sent to a special unit where physical training, running, supervised diets etc. were mandatory then once that was done be sent back to basic training to finish that course. By the time anyone was finished with Basic training they had to be in shape on wy or the other. Even once in a unit well after basic the standards and physical training etc. continued. I can remember one Air Force base where in Orderly room was posted and labeled "Fat Boy List " It showed names, weight You were supposed to be and actual weight. Often there were mandatory extra physical training in the morning and later evaluations to see if You were in shape. I Myself never had an overweight problem in all My 77 years of life.

Unless the contract they sign says they will need to get to the 20 and 28, nothing will change as the new standard is the new standard. They will start looking like Navy at JRB Ft Worth.
