I need to correct my DD-214 to reflect my Combat Action badge and my Air Assault badge. I understand you need to submit a DD Form 149, but if it has been longer than 3 years, you must provide justification as to why they should add it after that time period. Has anyone had success with amending their DD-214 3+ years after discharge?

Yes, I had 20+ years when I requested and received a DD-215.
Just explain as best you can why you feel you should have corrections made and include any documentation you have to show what is in need of changing.
I had an ASI added to mine, two overseas, and Korean Defense Service.
They were all left off and I had no reason to look too closely until many, many years later.

If you have the documentation to prove you are eligible there shouldn't problem regardless of the time frame in which you earned it.

Agreed. I caught the error of not having Air Assault on my DD-214 prior to getting out, however, our servicing folks needed a PDS code to have it added. What the hell is a PDS code? And why is the official order not good enough? Keep in mind I was Air Force and Air Assault is an Army school and the CAB is an Army badge.

Yes, I have had my DD-214 Amended to reflect my authorization for the Vietnam Civil Action Ribbon Palm and Frame. Also the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and Frame. All Vietnam Veterans are authorized these two ribbons if they served in country. Back to your issue I suggest your read Army Regulations 600-8-22, Section II, Para. 8-6 (Pages 98-100). See if you meet the criteria and them submit a Standard Form (SF) 180. Follow the directions on the SF180 to learn who to submit your documentation to. It will probably go to St. Louis, MO where they maintain all military personnel records. Good Luck!
