I simply wrote what popped up, wrote what I felt the story needed - added this piece - and weighed that against what I could see the story's direction. It didn't always work, and more than a few are collecting old dust. I took a few paragraphs and sent them to AI - got some delightful insight - and in a few instances the direction I was working on was changed - I deleted those
