A San Francisco lawmaker introduced a proposal that would require grocery stores in the city to provide six months of notice before closing a store and to explore a replacement supermarket at the vacated location. Dean Preston, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, introduced what he calls the Grocery Protection Act – which is based on a proposal the board approved in 1984 that was vetoed by then-San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein. Preston’s proposal would require grocery store owners to provide six months written notice to the Board of Supervisors as well as the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD). The store would also be required to post notices at all entries and exits as a means of informing customers and the general public. The rule wouldn’t preclude closures due to a store being unprofitable (Fox Business).

These law passers seem to be alergic to good decisions for the people, why would they force bussines owners to stay open when they are in the red, maybe they should start supporting bussines owners, not restrict what they can do...

and this along with the new $20 wage for fast foods will make it nearly impossible to find and keep employees.

Why would the force businesses to take actions against their best interests? Because they want to make the USA Communist… and they want the Democrat Party to be in charge of it. It’s that simple.

Seems the vast majority of recent closures are due to non-profitablity which is allowed under the proposal. The proposal is a dog and pony show

Some are calling this the "Whole Foods Bill" because they closed a large store just one year after opening (the company spokesman said it was being closed for safety considerations).

Mid-Market Whole Foods Closing Due to Terrible Street Conditions Outside
The Whole Foods at Trinity Place, at Eighth and Market in San Francisco, is closing its doors one year after opening there, with the company citing the horrible street conditions outside as the reason.

Lt Col Charlie Brown What a bunch of bullcrap. If a store wants to close, especially if they are losing money, they should not have to operate in the red unless the city is planning on paying them what they lost.
