If it came down to two candidates who both seemed knowledgeable in public affairs, and who were both open and willing to listen to their cabinet members, I would chose the leader with the military experience over the one without it. Unfortunately, we don't get great close choices these days. It seems like we have to choose the lesser of two evils.

Damned if you do
Edit: I just realized, why not go in the door on the right and be safe from all the issues?

What a silly comic.

1SG Michael Blount and SFC (Join to see) : Don't forget President George H. Bush! He was a naval aviator during WWII and was a recipient of the DFC!

LTC Stephen C. - Interestingly enough, in my youth,I was a Congressional intern. Turns out, the Congressman for whom I worked (The Hon. Paul McCloskey) served in USMC during the Korea conflict. He had lots of not nice things to say about President Bush's naval service. So, maybe I implicitly forgot about him.

Why is it that it's only Former Officers that run for President or high offices? How about getting a retired CSM as President. That would really change the ball game.

SFC W Michael - I try, but sometimes people lose the point. Instead of listening to what I say, they concentrate on how i say it. I'd make a lousy politician. Probably don't drink enough. Swear too much. And use common sense

If a SGM/CSM was elected to President he/she would probably get assassinated because he/she threw all the garbage out of the White House and off the staff. After pissing off all the finance bigwigs who thought they were going to control this person they had to do something before he/she straighten out the country.

1SG Michael Blount - Top, unless the unlikely event of revealing you're really not the right guy for the job, you got my vote.

SGM Mikel Dawson - I think you got that right, a former SGM/CSM would be likely to clean house. That's just what we need.

All things being equal I would choose the Veteran over the non-veteran.

I say all things being equal because I think to say you would always vote for the veteran is like someone saying:

I voted for "Joey Bag O' Donuts" because they are XX.

Replace XX with Veteran - is this wrong?

Well now let's replace XX with Caucasian, Latino, African American, etc. - Now do you have a problem with that?

I would never vote for someone who I didn't agree with their positions on major topics just because they are XX.

I am only cautioning you to think your voting decisions with more than just one issue.

Okay off soapbox :o)

MAJ Dallas D. - It's not that they are a veteran that counts...its whether they have command-level experience that counts. The POTUS is the CinC, and as such should know the responsibilities the CinC holds as well as be acutely aware of the possible consequences of military action.

There is a clear and valid reason why I would vote for a veteran for national office over a non-veteran. Voting for someone simply because they are (insert demographic here), but without any rationale behind it, is irresponsible at best.

Maj, I agree with you, But if say I needed a reason to pick one over another and they are equally qualified then I would pick the vet.

I considered picking Kerry over Romney because Kerry was a veteran.
