Have you taken this oath?

RP Members and Connections have you taken this oath! What does it mean to you? Pass it On!

I, Mikel J. Burroughs, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

I took this oath in January 1975. My oath has no expiration date.

For all my military retired, veteran, and active duty friends, I challenge you to copy and paste this as your status.

Replace my name and date with yours...and branch of service

United States Army.

This We'll Defend!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Yes, I took it, and still take it very seriously. I'm very proud that our founding fathers had the wisdom to make the oath to the Constitution, and NOT to the president or the government. It, like the 2nd Amendment, represents a final fail-safe against a totalitarian regime. BTW, I enjoyed the clean dry air of your neck of the woods last weekend (family reunion C Springs). Was SO nice to get away from VA humidity.

I'm taking it very soon and am eager. Many say that i will be signing my life away. If that so means that I will indeed be doing that, I will gladly do it for this cause.

You are signing your life away. No man has greater love then to lay down his life for another, Jesus said this. That's what you are signing up to do. No matter what you think of current wars and philosophy of elected officials. You are Swearing with Your LIFE to Defend the American people and Constitution. Remember that and if its not something you can or willing to do you shouldn't sign. Go Army Hoorah

You are not signing your life away. You are beginning a life where you will change, mature so that you see the value of others and you will walk with your head high because you didn't take the easy road of the world coming to you, you are grabbing it by the horns. Whether this is a lifetime of service to you, or only one hitch, you will be better for it. ESPECIALLY if it's the Marines. I had to throw that in.
