About
Pavements and Equipment Operators, better known as DirtBoyz are the largest Operations Flight career field. DirtBoyz can be assigned to many different types of units with the most common being Prime BEEF and RED HORSE. In their day to day operations they are responsible for the planning, construction, inspection and maintenance of concrete and asphalt runways, paved and unpaved airfield surfaces, paved and unpaved roads, vehicle parking surfaces and jogging and bike trails. They also plan, construct, inspect and maintain surface and subsurface drainage structures, curbs and gutters, airfield drainage ditches, as well as security and perimeter fencing. They operate, and performs operator maintenance on heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, dozers, backhoes, excavators, skid-steer loaders, dump-trucks, cranes and tractor-trailer combinations. As a team they conduct snow and ice control practices through the utilization of specialized equipment and ice control chemical products. Finally as a key part of the Operations Flight, they provide equipment operations support to other duty sections in performance of their daily mission.

Qualifications for this career field
Knowledge is mandatory of characteristics, capabilities, operation, and maintenance of equipment used in construction and paving; soil types, properties, limitations, and compaction methods; soil stabilization, drainage, and erosion control; construction and maintenance of asphalt and concrete surfaces; roadbeds; structure erection; landscaping; safety and environmental concerns; and pavement maintenance plans.
Must have the ability to lift 100 pounds. Must have normal color vision as defined in AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards. For entry, award, and retention of this AFSC, you must possess a valid state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicles (GMV) in accordance with AFI 24-301, Vehicle Operations.

Advice on how to transfer to this specialty
For active duty members, transfer to this specialty is currently not an option. The DirtBoy career field has very high morale and thus has a very high retention rate.
