The MOS I'd like to go into is open to prior service but only to E-1 - E-4. I'm an E-5. What are my options? The recruiter tells me flat out that there's no way of getting you to Active Duty. From my experiences in the military, there are waivers and exceptions for everything. Does anyone have suggestions for my next step in going Active Duty?

Consider dropping an AGR packet. Also keep in touch with the recruiter, the business rules change frequently enough that a window could open. I would talk to the recruiter about starting the release paperwork(which depending on the unit can take some time). That way should a window of opportunity arise the paperwork is done or almost so you don't miss out. And you can always get an extension on the release if the window doesn't open quick enough. Another possibility is to look for a "will Train" slot in the reserves for something that is on the business rules now. If you get trained up and have more than one MOS you have a larger chance of going active.

Well at least that's a better answer than I got from retention. I was told the only MOS open was SF candidate. Although I am still very interested in going active. My other approach was apply to ROTC in finishing my degree or apply through OCS.

Otherwise, I may be having to look at another branch as well. I've already been told by Navy I'll keep rank if I come in wanting to be a Corpsman. But I'll believe that after I would arrive to the fleet.
