This is a very interesting topic and scientific discussion, CSM Chuck Stafford! Until we, as a species, acquire the knowledge to overcome scientific hurdles to travel at or beyond the speed of light, we will need some type of suspended animation or "hibernation" to survive without losing muscle mass and debilitating organs... I no longer think it is an "if" scenario, but a "when" scenario... It will not happen in my lifetime, and perhaps not yours, as well, but for humanity to become a multi-planet species, or even a multi-solar system species, it will have to overcome all current obstacles, both scientific and life extending challenges if we are ever to become a space faring species... Excellent Post share, Chuck!

Sgt (Join to see) Unless there is some breakthrough in lightspeed tech, or hibernation tech I believe the pragmatic approach to interstellar travel will be large ships which will be home to multi-generational astronauts before getting to their destinations. Trips locally (Mars) won't require hibernation. That said, I've seen what can happen when people sleep in their teslas...not a fan

CSM Chuck Stafford - Yes, the large ship approach is, in my mind's eye, a viable option with a multi-generation approach, but I believe that will be centuries away... How many? That's the Trillion dollar question... LOL!

Just as gravity bends light it may also be a slingshot horseshoe to space craft. We can send satellites to Mars/ the Moon, further out in Space we have positioned telescopes , yet the curvature and gravity of our planet may be a speed influencer / time flex for a vehicle to speed up and around into the galaxy. Much like A smaller care drifts around a bend at speed . The faster the vehicle enters the bend, the faster it gets a momentum increase and a shoots the vehicle almost sideways in a drift like a pitcher throws a curve ball.
