Defunding the police was never a real thing, kind of like the ACA death panels, but the right sure likes to rally the base around crazy ideas.

Google: "What Cities Have Defunded Police?" and the answer is, New York City. Washington, D.C. Baltimore. Philadelphia. Los Angeles. San Francisco. Atlanta. Minneapolis. I'm afraid it is all too real.

The article ignores how domestic violence is a major related issue with rise in shootings during this pandemic period. The National Review story focuses on funding and does not distinguish between shootings involving strangers or connected people. Police are a necessary element of society for after a crime happens in public, but they may not prevent some of the shootings cited that include a bad private relationship.
