I'm going to respond before reading any other responses. First my major problem with the Editorial? from Foreign Policy is that it is completely opinion based. I'll take the major topics one by one:
- "The Trump administration is hastening catastrophic effects of climate change." Where is the evidence for this? The author instead uses vague statements like "storms are more severe, big floods come more often, and in the most extreme case, Arctic waters are melting and opening up sea lanes for the first time in recorded history." That's just not proven by the evidence and it is clear that the author is confusing weather for climate.
- "Trump is abdicating U.S. leadership and inviting China to fill the void." Really? How? Is the rest of the World suddenly going to look at China for tips on Environmentalism? Or has China suddenly become the lone world superpower because the President of the United States backed out on a Trade Deal? I don't think so.
- "Withdrawing from Paris will damage U.S. standing in the world." How? Again is "the World" going to suddenly stop asking the US for Money and Aid when disasters hit? I'll answer that...NO!
- "Pulling out of Paris means Republicans own climate catastrophes" Really, again the author is confusing weather with climate (FYI: Climate is on a >30 year scale). Somehow the Republicans are now responsible for Hurricanes, Blizzards, and Tornadoes. The author even used the example of a poor peach crop in Georgia.
- "Trump’s pulling out of Paris means that the rest of us are called upon to do more — and we will." How? and if true good. To quote John Kennedy "ask not what your country can do for you..."

I'll end my response with this diagram of World Temperatures over the last 10,000 years (since the last Ice Age). My takeaway from the graph is that despite drastic temperature changes throughout history, Mankind Survived and the World did not end.

SGT Kevin Berman - Thanks. I enjoy riling up my global warming friends by telling them that Global Warming is so bad, that every single summer day we can expect enough ice melt in the Arctic (but not Antarctica, because it's winter down) to cover the entire state of West Virginia (54,000 square kilometers). OMG, that's every single day...what will the Polar Bears do. Then I tell them not to worry, it happens every summer, and the ice regenerates itself every winter. FYI: The polar icecaps are Yuge.

This so called accord was strictly voluntary, no real enforcement ability and the only reason they wanted the U. S. was money. The effect on the climate under the conditions of this accord will be very minor at best. Until developing countries bring their industries up to at least the U.S. standard there is little the U.S. can do to effect so called climate change. As far as this author coming up with the statement storms are this and that. I have seen very little change over my 56 years in storms etc. If anything flooding in my area has been less severe over the last 10 years. And if I did decide to become a climate change believer, lets look at this scientifically. Higher CO2 levels benefit plant growth. Better plant growth and warmer temps will mean the plant will become greener. Say like 60 million years ago when all this coal and other fossil fuels formed.

Just saying if the climate change believers want to say how bad this is. Some very reputable scientist noted that the planet is not going to burn up. Over 60 million years ago when CO2 levels were at 3% range, this planet was wetter and greener than it ever was. But on another note. There is an astrophysics professor who has been studying the Earth and Mars and he notes that both planets have been warming slightly over the past 25 years of study and suggest this is a solar warming??? Just putting that out there as well. I find 50% of the climate change data hard to believe because they have falsified so much it is hard to know what to trust.

Opinions are like... well, you know the rest. Fortunately, this one has no force or effect. Only the President's opinion matters and, in this case, many Americans agree with him. So do economists that aren't in the pall of the Left. Call it a treaty or an accord, it makes no difference. It is a raw deal for America and we're better off signaling the world that President Obama is gone and with him the self-flagellating and appeasing. Thank God
