I'm glad that he recognized people were upset and was an adult about it. I'm glad one of our newest members of Congress was able to see the humor and accept an apology.
And I'm sad that the apology ever had to be made. It was a joke. Get over it.

I completely agree, I think it went too far (more cringe worthy than anything) when he said "sorry I know he lost his eye in war, whatever."
